Training Burn
Over the course of two nights, the Firefighter I class from Santa Fe Community College completed training burns on four houses in downtown Starke. The burns were a culmination of the 160 hour course that began earlier this summer.
Upon completion of the course the students will sit for the test to become certified as Firefighter I, or State of Florida “Volunteer Firefighters”.
In addition to training in real fire scenarios, the burns, off of Pratt Street, also serve another purpose. The area cleared by the burns will be used for the new Bradford County Public Library as well as retention ponds to relieve drainage problems from US Highway 301.
